Percolation Solutions

A Percolation test is carried out to determine the soakage rate of soil. The results of the Percolation Test are used to calculate the size of the percolation area. Percolation tests are a vital part of the design of your sewage system. Sites with poor soakage will not be able to use a septic tank, you will have to use a sewage treatment unit. We offer Site Suitability Assessments (Percolation Tests) to the EPA Code of Practice standard for planning applications and upgrades of existing wastewater treatment systems.

Corcorcan Precast Tanks can provide you with the solution to all your percolation needs and requirements. Our design team, in accordance with the EPA code of practice have developed a range of advanced pressurised soil/sand polishing filters along with more conventional percolation systems which are adaptable to all site specific characteristics.

What Is A Percolation Test?

A percolation (permeability) test assesses the hydraulic assimilation capacity of the subsoil, i.e. the ability of the subsoil to absorb water is assessed by recording the length of time for the water level to drop in the percolation hole by a specified distance. The objective of the percolation test is to determine the ability of the subsoil to hydraulically transmit the treated effluent from the treatment system, through the subsoil to groundwater. The test also gives an indication of the likely residence time of the treated effluent in the upper subsoil layers and therefore it provides an indication of the ability of the subsoil to treat the residual pollutants contained in the treated effluent.

Pressurised Percolation

A pressurised system distributes treated wastewater by discharging it through a system of small diameter pipes. The distribution network is made up of a supply manifold and specially designed and drilled distribution pipes. The wastewater is pumped at pressure from the treatment tank, ensuring it flows to all points of the network. This pipe network is laid out on a bed of stone and subsoil, covered with a geo-textile membrane and covered with topsoil.

Trench Percolation

A trench percolation system uses a series of specially designed 4" perforated pipes in stone lined trenches to distribute treated effluent to the subsoil, where it undergoes further treatment. Each pipe is connected to a single distribution box which evenly distributes the wastewater between each trench. A permeable geo-textile membrane covers the stone trench, preventing clay from the top soil from washing down and sealing drainage paths.

Tertiary Treatment

Local Authorities may specify higher effluent quality levels in specific circumstances. Tertiary treatment is used as a means to treat wastewater to high quality prior to discharge to a sensitive area or water course. We at Corcorcan Precast are delighted to design, manufacture and install solutions for such circumstances.
